Yas Island’s newest theme park – Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi will give residents of the UAE a chance to step inside the action-packed worlds of DC comics and Warner Bros. cartoons. This mega theme park will feature Gotham City and Metropolis – two interconnected areas designed to enthrall fans of Batman and Superman. Spread over 1.65 million-square-feet Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi will showcase thrill rides, interactive family-friendly attractions, and live entertainment, aside from iconic animated franchises like Looney Tunes, DC Comics and Hanna-Barbera. The park is expected to open to the public in 2018.

The Lighting Solutions division bagged the contract for accent lighting, feature lighting and general lighting for the theme park. The aim was to accentuate features of the characters to create an effect that was in line with the client’s requirements.

The main areas focused on were the Cartoon Junction area, Super hero city Gotham, featuring Batman and Metropolis. The lighting requirement for each was different and specialized. Superman’s Metropolis features a city of towering skyscrapers, while Gotham City features dark alleys. Cartoon Junction brings together Bugs Bunny and Scooby-Doo among others, under a stylized cartoon sky.

Scientechnic supplied customized ERCO fixtures with special dimming capabilities combining orientation luminaries, track mounted spotlights, special optic down lights and buried uplights. They were integrated to the existing dimming system to create the desired effect for the individual areas of the theme park. Spotlights were used mainly for accentuation purposes and down lights were used for wall washing and lighting in general areas.
