Design and engineering of electrical, lighting, audio-video and ITS works at the Boardwalk
The Dubai Water Canal is an extension of the Deira Creek, linking Business Bay to the Arabian Gulf. This environmentally friendly lifestyle development will have a network of food, beverage and retail outlets positioned along the boardwalk.
Scientechnic is proud to be associated with the Dubai Water Canal and was nominated by RTA to handle this project under the main contractor BESIX. The deliverables were the supply, installation, commissioning of Smart Poles with functional and feature lights, CCTV camera, Wi-Fi coverage for the entire board walk, audio system, step lighting, planter lighting and boardwalk handrail lighting.
Among the key features of the canal are the three aesthetically designed pedestrian bridges that run across the three-kilometre- long Dubai Water Canal. The design of the bridges represents concepts of the past, present and future.
The scope of work on the bridge included the delivery of low voltage switchgears, electrical cabling, LED lights and CCTV. The bridges were brought to light by combinations of light fixtures supplied by WE-EF and ACDC, in keeping with the three themed concepts of the bridges.
Project Management Challenges
This was a fast track project and project management had its challenges, however with some pre-emptive measures the team was able to successfully meet the deliverables. The process involved selecting results oriented sub-contractors and controlling costs through the efficient use of resources and materials. This also required aligning the on-time delivery of over 60 suppliers, for seamless execution of everyone’s tasks. Work on site was happening 24/7 with over 220 personnel working in three shifts to ensure that the project was completed on time.
